As a state road agency, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and management of significant infrastructure which is manufactured from precast concrete. With the majority of bridges constructed from prestressed concrete components which are accelerated (steam or hot water) cured, TMR subsequently has an interest in the performance of these concrete components over an extended lifespan in addition to the costs associated with production of these components. As the environmental and sustainability aspects of infrastructure construction are becoming increasingly important the need to have an accelerated concrete curing process which provides an optimal balance considering the sustainability, structural performance, concrete durability, and production efficiency perspectives is becoming more critical. The overall aim of the S61 project was to inform the future optimisation of accelerated curing processes for precast prestressed and reinforced concrete components.
