In its second year, the NACOE project R139 Review of Possible Changes to Heavy Vehicle Mass and Dimensions Through Adoption of Low and Zero Emission Technologies focused on testing and analysing the impact of typical steer axle truck tyre configurations on the deformation of a ‘thin’ sprayed sealed unbound granular pavement. The research was based on an accelerated pavement testing program completed using the National Transport Research Organisation’s (NTRO’s) Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF). The NACOE work leveraged off test samples that were residual from testing that was previously undertaken by NTRO for the Truck Industry Council (TIC) and included an arrangement that enabled sharing the data sets from all the test strips along with historical Austroads tyre testing data sets.
