An effort to reduce the number and severity of crashes is an important element in the Queensland Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan. The strategy is based on a Safe System approach which acknowledges that people will make mistakes, and no one should be killed or seriously injured because of their mistakes. A safe and forgiving road system seeks to keep the forces due to a crash within tolerable limits.
