The purpose of this National Asset Centre of Excellence (NACOE) project, P59 Best Practice Non-destructive Testing in Assurance of Asphalt, was to evaluate the potential for a selected Pavement Quality Indicator device (PQI) to be used for non-destructive density conformance testing of asphalt layers. The PQI is a nondestructive device that potentially offers a more practical and safer method to determine the compaction of asphalt layers when compared to nuclear density gauges (NDGs).
