General Purpose Limestone (GL) cement, offers a lower-carbon alternative to conventional General Purpose (GP) cement due to the higher level of clinker replacement with limestone mineral addition. Trials as part of Queensland infrastructure projects compared GL and GP cement concretes across various applications, including pavements, structural elements, piling, and post-tensioning grout. The results showed that GL cement performed comparably to GP cement in concrete and grout and generally met or exceeded required standards, with any minor issues unrelated to cement type. Overall, the study demonstrates that GL cement can be effectively used in typical construction applications while helping reduce the embodied carbon of concrete in Australia.
