As a part of the move to performance-based asphalt specifications, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has commissioned the Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device (HWTD), a laboratory testing device designed to measure the rutting resistance of an asphalt mix and suitable for measuring susceptibility to moisture-induced damage and rutting resistance.
