In Queensland, a waterway barrier works development approval (DA) may be triggered for working, constructing, or raising new, or modifying existing, culverts, causeways, bridges, and floodways due to the potential constraints they pose to fish passage. The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) frequently triggers waterway barrier works during the construction and maintenance of its extensive transport network.
