The surface movements resulting from the wetting or drying of an expansive soil can cause distress to structures that are founded on them. This report presents the results to date of a desktop study on expansive soils, that has been undertaken as part of the 2019–20 NACOE research program. It summarises the historical geotechnical information collected by TMR over the past 40 years and a review of some of the key parameters used in analysing risk.
